Myriam Márquez joined our staff Monday as interim executive director of the News Leaders Association. Myriam brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her leadership of NLA. She has served as executive editor of El Nuevo Herald, editorial board editor of the Miami Herald, enterprise editor of the Orlando Sentinel, as well as metro editor, columnist and news reporter. She has been senior adviser and communications director for the office of the mayor in Miami-Dade County overseeing the PIOs in 24 departments and helping reporters get the information they need to inform the public. A graduate of the University of Maryland, Myriam has a passion for NLA's mission of helping news leaders navigate our challenging economic waters while training the next generation of journalists to be fair, ethical, truthful and accurate.

“I’m thrilled to be joining NLA as interim director to serve an inspiring group of news leaders throughout the nation,” Márquez said. “Having been a member of ASNE and AOJ, I know firsthand the value that NLA offers to both emerging leaders and veteran managers. I look forward to working with our exceptional board and staff, and reaching out to our members to hear from you on the challenges you face and how we can help empower journalists with training, partnerships and new networks. We are here to help you lead your newsrooms in transformative changes that advance press freedoms and create diverse, sustainable organizations that reflect the communities we serve.”
